DAY 27: THE BEST FINANCIAL INVESTMENT YOU CAN MAKE
“Tell them to use their money to do good. They should be rich in good works and generous to those in need, always being ready to share with others. By doing this they will be storing up their treasure as a good foundation for the future so that they may experience true life.” 1 TIMOTHY 6:18-19 (NLT)
Jesus told us to store up our treasures in heaven (Matthew 6:20-21). How can we do this? In one of his most misunderstood statements, Jesus said, “I tell you, use worldly wealth to gain friends for yourselves, so that when it is gone, you will be welcomed into eternal dwellings” Luke 16:9 (NIV).
Jesus did not mean for you to “buy” friends with money. What he meant was that you should use the money God gives you to bring people to Christ.
You’ve probably heard the expression, “You can’t take it with you.” But the Bible says you can send it on ahead. How? By investing in people who are going to heaven. It’s the best financial investment you’ll ever make! Imagine being greeted in heaven by someone who says, “I’m here because you gave the time, the money, and effort to help me hear the gospel. If it weren’t for you, I might not be here.” Is anybody going to be in heaven because of you?
When you use your money to buy a Bible for somebody who doesn’t have one, you are storing up treasure in heaven. When you use your money to share the Good News around the world, you are storing up treasure in heaven. When you use your money to help build a church, you are storing up treasure in heaven. That is the highest and best use of your money, and the return on your investment will be endlessly rewarding. “By doing this they will be storing up their treasure as a good foundation for the future so that they may experience true life.” 1 Timothy 6:19 (NLT).
WHAT DID YOU HEAR?
What did God say to you as you read today’s Scripture and devotion?
WHAT DO YOU THINK?
How does it apply to your life?
WHAT WILL YOU DO?
Don’t just be a hearer of the word. Be a doer of the word. (James 1:22)
NOW TALK TO GOD
This is where you turn your thoughts into prayer. It could be a prayer of gratitude or praise. It could be a prayer of confession or a request for God’s help. It’s up to you. Take a minute to write a prayer of response to what God said to you.
